Seattle native and local Planned Parenthood director Tina Hammerschmidt made waves last week with her announcement of a new abortion clinic to open in the city. The only catch? It’s just for christians. Seeing the success of sites like christianmingle, Ms. Hammerschmidt decided to open ChristianDwindle, an abortion service offered to those only of the Christian faith. “I was gardening by my window listening to NPR, when I realized there are plenty of Christian women who are unable to make the healthy choices for their bodies, simply because of their faith.” Hammerschmidt, who uses they/them pronouns, says the clinic caters to christians who would otherwise be unable to have an abortion by being in complete accordance with biblical law. The clinic has received stamps of approval from multiple religious leaders in the Seattle community, over 2 dozen Rabbis and Imams have already signed on board with the project. “Well, I couldn’t get any ministers to endorse it, but since Judaism follows the Old Testament and that’s part of the Bible, I figured a Rabbi’s approval would be enough to make my case with their God. It’s all the same to me.” - Tina Hammerschmidt, laughing. Hammerschmidt themself is not a Christian, stating they take inspiration from “an eclectic mix of ethno-religious anti-hegemonic cultural traditions” one of which is veganism, which she says she takes from the mystics of India. “I would never hurt a living being, I can’t stand the sight of any of the Goddesses’ creatures in pain. That’s why it’s good to abort christian babies, so they don’t have to grow up in such a hurtful and oppressive faith.” ChristianDwindle is also the only clinic in the country to allow abortions up into the last week of the third trimester, with a generous “it’s never too late” policy, giving Christian women plenty of options. While there are some critics, Hammerschmidt’s business is set to be highly profitable, charging a “baby be gone tithe” of up to $10,000, with later trimesters coming at a discount. The clinic has also received funding from the Clinton Foundation, The Israeli Government, and Netflix, giving Hammerschmidt a promise for the future, unlike the children she aborts.
